Before we began this project Dr. Charlie had no idea of what I call my past life – almost 20 years as editor of a newspaper group.  Not what you would expect from the owner of a computer consulting company.  Among the enjoyable challenged I faced in my first career was to help readers better express their opinions through re-crafting their submission while holding true to their intent. 

Dr. Charlie was a good candidate for this type of help. He expresses strong opinions and has a distinctive voice in his writings. My goal throughout was to clean the writing up a bit while preserving his voice and his views.

This book is compiled from e-mail dispatches and diary entries during Dr. Charlie’s tours in Kuwait and then Iraq. Whenever possible we chose to keep the language as it was written in the moment.  At times it is disconcerting and chaotic, but it is real.
